Raipur: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday arrested a top bureaucrat in Chhattisgarh for alleged money-laundering.
Saumya Chaurasia, deputy secretary to chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, was taken for a health check-up before being escorted by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel to a local court, NDTV reported.
Last month, ED had conducted raids connected with the money-laundering case and arrested IAS officer Sameer Vishnoi and two others.
ED launched the investigation after taking note of a complaint by Income Tax department, linked to an alleged scam in which illegal levy of Rs 25 per tonne had been extorted from every tonne of coal transported from the state by a cartel involving senior bureaucrats, businessmen, politicians and middlemen.
Chaurasia’s house was raided in February 2020.
CM Baghel has claimed that ED raid was a ‘political revenge’ in an attempt to ‘destabilise’ his government.
