Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday arrested jailed Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal’s daughter Sukanya Mondal on charges of money laundering related to the alleged cattle smuggling case.
ED arrested Sukanya as she failed to provide satisfactory answers to its questions, reported PTI.
Sukanya, a primary school teacher, was interrogated by the ED a few times. She as also summoned by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last year, but didn’t show up citing illness.
The reportedly found multiple unaccounted properties and bank accounts related to Sukanya while investigating the case.
“Law will take its own course. TMC will not defend anyone. Sukanya has recently lost her mother and her father is now in jail. Couldn’t she have been interrogated at home? Was her arrest a political vendetta just because her father is a TMC leader?” said TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh.
Anubrata, arrested by CBI last August and by ED thereafter, was kept at the Asansol correctional facility till March 7 before being flown to Delhi on the order of a Delhi court in an ED case.
He is currently lodged in Tihar jail.
