Bhubaneswar: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), on Tuesday, attached properties worth Rs 6.52 crore of self-styled godman Surendranath Mishra alias Sura Baba, for allegedly swindling money from devotees on pretext of giving them ‘Guru Mantra’.
The agency attached several lands worth Rs 5.56 crore and bank balance amounting to Rs 86 lakh belonging to Sura Baba in the second phase.
On December 2 last year, Mishra was released from the Jharpara jail in Bhubaneswar after getting bail from the Supreme Court. As many as seven cases have been registered against the self-styled godman. The Orissa High Court had granted him bail in four cases, while a court in Bhubaneswar had given him bail in two cases.
His properties to the tune of Rs 14.95 crore was attached by the ED last year.
Sura was arrested by Commissionerate Police on August 31, 2015 for cheating and assaulting people. His two sons Trilochan and Biranchi were also arrested in connection with the case.
