Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday issued a lookout notice for Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh.
On Friday, an ED team was attacked by a mob of 800 to 1000 people when its officials were on way way to Sheikh’s residence in Sandeshkhali, in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, in connection with the public distribution system (PDS) scam.
ED has shared the notice with airport authorities and Border Security Force (BSF).
An FIR has been registered against Sheikh based on ED’s complaint.
Sheikh, who is the president of TMC’s Sandeshkhali unit, has been on the run since Saturday.
ED officials were allegedly attacked by supporters of Sheikh “with an intention to cause death”.
The central agency said in a statement that the mob marched towards vehicles in which its officials were travelling and snatched mobile phones, laptops and cash from them.
