Bhubaneswar: Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials carried out raids at three locations belonging to former director of Keshari Estates Private Limited Akshaya Kumar Chaudhury in Odisha on Friday.
The places where raids are being carried out are Keshari Talkies office and his Suryanagar residence in Bhubaneswar and another location in Berhampur of Ganjam district, sources said.
It may be noted here that Chaudhury had been accused of cheating home-buyers of nearly Rs 5.16 crore between 2008 and 2019. After receiving complaints from duped investors, the economic offences wing (EOW) of the state Crime Branch had registered a case against the company on August 26, 2020,and arrested him on September 9, 2020.
The EOW during its investigation found that the company had taken money from 18 people to provide them homes in 30 duplex housing units in Pokhariput area of the capital city in 2008. When the company did not start any construction till 2012, depositors enquired about the delay of the project and demanded refund of their money.
However, the company sought time and promised them to provide flats in Jadupur on the outskirts of city. In 2013, the company too failed to provide houses to the investors, the sources added.
