Jalandhar: Days after Ashok Mittal replaced Raghav Chadha as AAP Rajya Sabha deputy leader, the Enforcement Directorate is reportedly carrying out raids at the campus of the Lovely Professional University (LPU)—founded by him— in Phagwara. The group which runs the university is co-owned by Mittal and his brothers Ramesh and Naresh. He is also chancellor at LPU.
The ED raids were conducted by
the central probe agency’s Jalandhar and Chandigarh teams. The raids were being carried out against business entities linked to the Lovely Group. Apart from LPU, the Tetr College of Business and Masters union College of Business in Gurgaon was also searched, reported Hindustan Times.
“The residential premise of AAP MP Ashok Mittal is also being covered in searches,” an official, as cited in the report, said. All the premises being raided were linked to the Lovely Group, he added.
These raids are part of probe into alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). “The federal agency has sought no assistance from the local police,” an official told HT.
Raids were also being carried out at sweets shops, lovely autos and a distance education centre owned by the group.
