Koraput: Tension prevailed in Lamtaput area of Odisha’s Koraput district on Tuesday after some Congress activists allegedly hurled eggs at the vehicle of local Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Raghuram Padal.

Sources said the incident took place when the ruling party legislator from Koraput was proceeding to inaugurate a new panchayat samiti office building in Lamtaput block. However, Congress workers were up in arms as the names of Koraput MP and some district council members were missing in the plaque prepared for inauguration of the building.

As Padal’s vehicle entered the area located in his Assembly constituency, several Congress activists appeared at the site and hurled eggs at the car protesting his visit.

Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area. While the protesters left the area, the incident triggered anger among the supporters of the legislator.

On getting the information, police personnel rushed to the site and took stock of the situation. Police personnel were deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident. Six persons have reportedly been detained in connection with the incident.
