Angul: Tension prevailed at Bantala in Angul district after eight trucks, carrying cattle, were intercepted by a group of cow vigilantes on Thursday.
Receiving information that some people were trafficking cattle illegally, members of Bantala Gau Suraksha Mancha and Vishwa Hindu Parishad stopped eight trucks near Bantala Chhak, while seven other vehicles managed drive away.
According to sources, each truck was carrying 30-40 cattle tightly stuffed into it. Several animals were also found dead.
On being informed, police rushed to the spot, seized the vehicles and detained the drivers.
An angry mob of more than 50 locals also gathered at the spot and demanded strict against the traffickers. Police assured them that prompt action will be taken against those involved in the racket.
