Bhubaneswar: Eight persons were killed and two injured in separate lightning strikes in the state on Sunday.
In Bhadrak district, four persons were killed after being struck by lightning at Chandabali area while working in an open field. They were identified as Purna Chandra Jena (42) of Barakula village under Jasipur panchayat, Bidyadhar Rout (40) of Hatapur village under Nuagaon panchayat, Narahari Das (50) of Sundarpur village and Mrutyunjaya Behera (57), hailing from Orali village under Tihidi block in the district.
In a similar incident in Balasore district, A woman, identified as Bharati Das (45), was killed at Kuligaon under Khantapara police limits. Another person identified as Ramesh Chandra Swain (40) of Sijanga area also died in lightning strike.
Two more deaths were reported from Bantala panchayat in Kendrapada district and Keonjhar district.
