Ekamra Kshetra In Bhubaneswar To Be Developed As Heritage City!

Bhubaneswar: Plans are afoot to develop Ekamra Kshetra or the Old Town area in Odisha capital as a heritage city.

For this purpose, the state government has constituted a 10-member Ekamra Kshetra Infrastructure Development Committee headed by Chief Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy.

Development Commissioner Suresh Mohapatra, Finance Secretary Ashok Meena, Housing and Urban Development Secretary G Mathivathanan, Culture Secretary Manoranjan Panigrahy, Tourism Secretary Vishal Dev, Bhubaneswar Development Authority Vice Chairman Prem Chandra Chaudhary, Police Commissioner Sudhansu Sarangi, CRUT Managing Director Arun Bothra are the other members of the committee.

The Old Town area is dotted with more than 500 century-old monuments and temples, including  Lingaraj Temple, Rajarani Temple, Kedar Gouri Temple and Mukteswar Temple.

According to sources, the committee has been asked to prepare a comprehensive development plan for the old town area in the city and the financial implications for the purpose.

Earlier, the Naveen Patnaik government had approved projects worth around Rs 700 crore for transforming the Pilgrim Town of Puri into a world class heritage city.
