Ahmedabad: Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the ICC T20I World Cup final match between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Three anti-drone systems have been put in place and over 3,000 police personnel and nearly 1,000 home guards are on duty as part of the comprehensive security plan.
Elaborate security and crowd-management arrangements had been made for the high-profile match, Ahmedabad Police commissioner G S Malik said, as reported by News18.
Additional precautionary measures had been introduced this time to prevent overcrowding or any untoward incidents near the stadium gates, Malik said.
“This time, we have created holding areas near Gate 1 and Gate 2, slightly towards the main road, to prevent any possibility of a stampede. Although such an incident has never occurred here, we have
set this up as an extra precaution. We are implementing this for the first time during a match,” he said.
Senior officers will be stationed at the venue to supervise the arrangements.
“A joint commissioner of police, 12 deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) and officers of various ranks will be stationed here as part of the security deployment,” the CP revealed.
Advanced surveillance and safety systems had also been deployed for the match, he said.
“We are also utilising three anti-drone systems. In addition, eight Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad teams will be deployed. We conducted a rehearsal on Saturday,” Malik said.
He said transport services would remain operational late into the night to facilitate spectators’ movement after the match. The police have also made specific arrangements to ensure the safety and convenience of women spectators.
“We have deployed female police personnel along with male officers. Frisking of women will be carried out by female personnel, and for men, it will be done by male staff,” he said.
“We will ensure that no person enters or runs onto the pitch. A separate system has been put in place for this under the supervision of a DCP. Special care has been taken regarding this issue,” he said.
