Berhampur: Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kanisi on the outskirts of Berhampur in Odisha’s Ganjam district on May 6.
He will address two election rallies in Berhampur and Nabarangpur Lok Sabha constituencies during the visit. The PM will first address a public gathering at Kanisi at 10 am, before proceeding to Nabarangpur on the same day at around 12.30 pm. The BJP has fielded Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy from Berhampur and Balabhadra Majhi from Nabarangpur Lok Sabha seats where polling will be held on May 13.
The road map for the security of the PM is already prepared. The Special Protection Group (SPG) officers held a meeting on security arrangements of the Prime Minister with the district administration and the police administration in Berhampur on the day. While the SPG will look after the inner-ring security of the PM, the state police will be in charge of the outer ring security.
As lakhs of people are expected to congregate at the venue from different places, the police chalked out a plan for the safe arrival and dispersal of the public. No water bottle would be allowed in the meeting venue. However, the district administration has made adequate arrangements for providing drinking water to the people.
“Berhampur Police is ready to provide fool-proof security to the Prime Minister. We will talk with the DGP and the state government to seek the necessary support system,” said Berhampur SP Sarthak Sarangi.
Modi’s visit holds significance for Odisha as he has been harping on BJP’s prospects in the state during media interactions on several occasions. In a recent interview with a national media channel, he said the pride of Odisha and Odia language was at stake under the present government.
“I don’t think Odia people will tolerate this for a long time. Odisha has so many resources that it could have become the richest state in the country today”, he said.
Modi’s campaign in the state comes close on the heels of the campaign by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda.
The Lok Sabha and Assembly elections will be held simultaneously in the state in four phases from May 13 to June 1, as per the notification of the Election Commission of India.
