Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police have made elaborate security arrangement for the Durga Puja in the Millennium City.
Informing the media on the security arrangement here on Sunday, Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty said a total of 40 platoons of police will be deployed at puja mandaps and sensitive locations. Besides, 300 police officers, 50 DSPs and Additional DCP will monitor security arrangements while Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Striking Force and the Quick Action Team (QAT) personnel will also be deployed to keep a strict vigil on the movement of terror elements. To keep track of any anti-social activities, plain-clothed policemen will be deployed along the busy thoroughfares and near the puja mandaps.
“The office-bearers of the Puja Committees of the city have also informed that they will engage 800 volunteers who will work in coordination with the police during the festival,” Mohanty said.
To regulate heavy traffic rush, the Commissionerate Police will enforce new traffic rules from October 15, he added.
Meanwhile, the Sasthi Puja of Goddess Durga began at several shrines of the Goddess in the state, including the Chandi temple in Cuttack. It will be observed at puja mandaps on Monday.
