Bhubaneswar: Elaborate security arrangements have been planned by the police for Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup 2023 to be held Odisha to ensure smooth conduct of the mega international event.
A large number of hockey lovers and fans are likely to visit Odisha to witness the world cup matches to be held in Bhubaneswar and steel city of Rourkela between January 13 and 29.
Apart from taking steps to ensure safety and security of players and spectators during the event, the Commissionerate Police has chalked out elaborate plans for putting in place tight security measures to curb crimes during that period.
While a special squad has been formed to crackdown on anti-social elements and criminals, Commissionerate Police has mounted a close watch on drug peddling in the state capital.
According to sources, the police stations have been asked to maintain a close vigil on the activities of criminal elements and intensity patrolling in crime-prone areas of the city. Special measures are being taken against snatching.
Owners of hotels and guest houses in the city have been asked to provide necessary the information sought from them.
Stating that safety and security of players and spectators during the event is of utmost importance, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said an elaborate arrangement has been planned to ensure the safety and security of all the players and spectators.
The aim is to ensure that the visitors, including the players, return to their respective countries after the World Cup with a good experience, he said.
