A retired employee of FCI, Srinath Samal, and his wife Bidyalata Samal were found murdered at Beleswar village under Madhupatna police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district late on Thursday.
Police found them lying in a pool of blood with throat slit.
The couple has five daughters and a son, all of whom are settled outside Odisha. Their nephew and a tenant were residing at their house. The tenant had vacated the room 10 days ago.
The nephew was not present when the incident took place.
The couple had spoken to one of their daughters on Thursday evening. She had called back again at 9pm but they didn’t answer. So she called up their neighbour to check on them. The neighbour discovered Srinath and Bidyalata’s blood-soaked bodies. He found the door and gate open.
Police have sealed the house for evidence and investigation.
Primary investigation suggests involvement of a known person as the cupboard was found open.
