Bhubaneswar: Unidentified miscreants looted a house after locking up an elderly couple inside a room at Divya Vihar in Samantarapur here late on Monday.
According to sources, six to seven miscreants entered the house of one Bishnu Charan Palai, a retired bank employee, in Lane-7 of the area by breaking a window grill.
Hearing the noise, Bishnu and his wife Arati woke up. At this, the miscreants locked the couple inside a room where their daughter and granddaughter were sleeping and looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth Rs 5 lakh.
The incident came to light on Tuesday after the couple was rescued by people living in their house on rent.
The victims have lodged a complaint with Lingaraj police and investigation is underway.
