Jajpur: Police on Sunday arrested an elderly man in connection with the alleged brutal rape of an eight-year-old girl, currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack.
The incident took place on October 23 in Bari area under Bari-Ramachandrapur police limits of Jajpur district. The accused, identified as Kalia Parida, lured the minor girl to his house on the pretext of showing a rabbit and raped her. He went into hiding after the incident and was apprehended from the house of a medicine shop owner at Dandi Sahi under Pattamundai police limits, sources said.
Police had earlier detained his son, daughter, nephew and his sister on the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl’s family with Bari Police. Further investigation is underway.
