Bhubaneswar: An elderly man allegedly attempted self-immolation by consuming phenyl in front of Lok Seva Bhavan in Odisha capital on Wednesday, alleging police inaction over his complaint.
The man, identified as Rabindra Mohan Dash of Raghunathpur in Jagatsinghpur, was rescued by the police and rushed to hospital soon after he was spotted drinking phenyl in front of the state secretariate building, sources said.
75-year-old Dash, in a note, alleged that he was compelled to take the extreme step due to apathy of the police in dealing with a written complaint lodged by him at Tomando police station.
The man alleged that he was running a parlour at Kalinga Vihar area in the state capital, but some of his employees had grabbed it after which he lodged an FIR at Tomando police station. However, no action has been taken by the police, he alleged.
