Elderly Man Drowns To Death In Village Pond, Wife Critical In Odisha’s Sonepur

Sonepur: An elderly man drowned to death while taking bath in a pond in Birmaharajpur area of Odisha’s Sonepur district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Uddhav Pradhan (70) of Bharatapur in Sambalpur district.

According to sources, Uddhav along with his wife Malati (65) had been to Kardapal village under Birmaharajpur police limits in Sonepur on Thursday to meet their daughter and son-in-law.

The couple had gone out for a bath in a pond when the man  drowned after he slipped deep into the water. His wife also turned critical while trying to save him.

After getting information, Fire Services personnel rushed to the site and launched a rescue operation. Uddhav was pulled out of water and taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and handed over the body to the bereaved family after conducting a postmortem, police said.
