Bhubaneswar: An elderly man from West Bengal was found hanging in the room of a lodge in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
According to police sources, the 61-year-old man, identified as Pradeep Banerjee from the neighbouring state, had checked into the lodge at the Master Canteen in the city a week back. The hotel employees did not detect anything suspicious about him during his week long stay.
On Monday, Banerjee’s family called up the hotel and requested its staff to check his room as he was not responding to their phone calls. The hotel staff knocked on the door of Banerjee’s room for a long time but there was no response from inside.
Suspecting something wrong, they informed the police. A team from Kharavela Nagar police station went to the hotel and opened Banerjee’s room with duplicate key.
They found him hanging from the ceiling fan in the room. The police sent the body for post-mortem and informed his family. They have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigation.
