Angul/Nabarangpur: An elderly man died and seven others were injured in two separate road mishaps in Odisha on Friday.
In the first incident, Gopabandhu Acharya (75) of Amalapada was killed after being hit by a speeding truck at Hanuman Bazaar in Angul when he was returning home on a scooter.
On being informed, the police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
In the second incident, seven persons, including four schoolchildren, were injured after the auto-rickshaw they were in overturned near Chandahandi Ghat at Nabarangpur the same day.
Sources said the accident took place when the students were travelling in the auto-rickshaw from Siunaguda village, with their parents, to appear for an entrance exam at Dhadipani School.
The auto-rickshaw driver lost control and the vehicle turned turtle near Chandahandi ghat. Residents rescued the passengers and sent them to Jharigaon Community Health Centre. They were later shifted to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital as their condition deteriorated. On being informed, the police reached the spot and started investigations into the matter.
