Keonjhar: An elderly man was trampled to death by an elephant herd at Joda in Keonjhar district on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Markanda Nayak.
According to the sources, the herd of 11 elephants entered Joda town by the Lahanda-Manamora jungle road after crossing Suna river. The herd proceeded to Baneikala NC gate and destroyed a boundary wall of a house there.
The elephants also damaged some motorcycles and vehicles in the area. The ramapge forced residents to spend a sleepless night.
The pachyderms then returned to Manamora jungle by crossing Suna river around 5 am on Thursday.
