Cuttack: In a tragic incident, an elderly man was mowed down by a cement-laden truck at Tangi-Kanpur Chhack in Cuttack district on Monday morning.
According to sources, the accident took place while the victim was crossing the road.
Eyewitnesses said that over-speeding and negligent driving might have caused the accident.
Tension erupted in the area following the mishap, and an irate mob gathered near the spot and staged blockade at Kanpur Chhack demanding adequate compensation for the family of the deceased and action against the errant driver, who fled the spot soon after the incident.
The blockade was lifted after police reached the spot and assured the agitators that their demands will be looked into.
