Jajpur: An elderly man died after being attacked by a youth with a sharp weapon at a village in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Saturday.
As per preliminary reports, the incident took place at Jamdhar village under Jajpur Sadar police limits. The deceased person has been identified as Kalandi Mallick of nearby Swapneswar village.
Sources said the accused, identified as Surendra Behera, was roaming with a sharp weapon and brutally attacked Kalandi while the elderly man was proceeding to market in the morning. The victim died on the spot.
On getting information, a police team reached the village and launched an investigation.
The accused youth, who is stated to be mentally unstable, has been detained by the police.
