Bhubaneswar: Despite the restrictions on high decibel music during festivals and social occasions, an elderly man suffered cardiac arrest reportedly due to loud sound during the immersion procession of Durga idol in the Old Town of Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
According to sources, a puja committee in the Old Town was taking Durga idol in a procession for immersion on the day. The committee members along with the locals were dancing to the tune of DJ music played at a very high volume.
As the procession was passing close to the house of the elderly man, identified as Bijay Ram Panda, he suffered a heart attack. His family members rushed him to a private hospital. Panda, who is a heart patient, is undergoing treatment, family sources said.
It may be noted that before commencement of the festive season, the Commissionerate Police had imposed restriction on playing DJ music of high decibel during immersion procession in the city.
