Kendrapada: Search and rescue operations continued on Sunday for an elderly man, who went missing after being swept away by strong currents in the Kani River while returning home with essential rations in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
The missing person has been identified as Sitakanta Malik, a resident of Kalamada Sasan village under Aali police limits.
According to family members, Malik had gone to fetch essential groceries and ration supplies for his household during the day on Sturday. However, when he failed to return home by evening, his concerned relatives raised an alarm after realising that he was caught in the overflowing floodwaters covering the local roads..
On being informed, response teams from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) launched a search and rescue operation in the turbulent waters of the Kani River. The search operation by the two ODRAF teams was still underway at the time of reporting.
