Bhubaneswar: The body of a 70-year-old patient was found hanging in the Orthopaedic ward of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar under mysterious conditions.
The body was reportedly found hanging from the fan above his hospital bed. The deceased was identified as Dilip Kumar Sahu of Atalapur village in Jajpur district. He was recently admitted to the ward.
While the incident was suspected to have taken place around midnight, the exact circumstances that led to it were still not clear.
As per sources, Sahu was admitted to the hospital on December 5. It is still unclear as to what led him to take the extreme step.
Meanwhile, police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. An investigation is underway with police interrogating the deceased’s daughter, nearby patients, and hospital staff.
Hospital authorities stated that the cause of death will be clarified after the autopsy. A six-member team has reportedly been formed by AIIMS to probe the incident. The hospital authorities also maintained that there has been no negligence on behalf of the staff.
