Angul: An elderly woman and her two grandchildren were killed as a speeding car reportedly ran over them in Odisha’s Angul district on Friday evening.
According to sources, the incident took place on village road of Gobara under Bikrampur police station in the district. The deceased were identified as 50-year-old Pramila Pradhan and her grandchildren Punam Pradhan and Gugu Pradhan.
Punam and Gugu were playing on the village road while their grandmother was keeping an eye on them when the car came in a high speed and ran over them.
While Pramila died on the spot, the two children sustained critical injuries in the incident. The injured children were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) by their family members. But they succumbed in the hospital during treatment, the sources said.
The villagers caught hold of the driver and beat him up. They also detained the young driver who was reportedly in inebriated condition and informed the police.
The police have detained the driver and were questioning him. They have registered a case and launched an investigation.
