Bhubaneswar/Boudh: An ODRAF team of 5th India Reserve Battalion, Boudh, has been engaged in rescuing an elderly woman, who fell into a 20 feet deep abandoned borewell near Kainphula village under Sadar block of Odisha’s Sonepur district on Monday evening.
The NDRF team from 3rd Battalion, Munduli, which has expertise in such rescue operations, is also on its way to the incident spot, the office of Special Relief Commissioner informed on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as Dukhi Negi (80).
On being informed about the mishap, Fire Service personnel had rushed to the spot and initiated a rescue operation. While oxygen is being pumped into the borewell to help the woman breath and a parallel hole is being dug from a distance of around 10 feet to reach her.
“According to locals, the borewell is about 18-20 ft deep. Oxygen is being supplied to the woman. Parallel well is being dug. Our team will reach the woman within a hour,” Fire Services DG Sudhanshu Sarangi told the media.
Assistant Fire Officer Dhananjay Mallik said said that since the opening of the borewell is narrow, the ground parallel to it is being dug using an excavator provided by the district administration. “We are now 7-8 feet away from her location. We can see her from top but she is not responding. We will soon be able to rescue her,” he added.
