Malkangiri: Two persons were arrested on Sunday for allegedly gangraping an elderly woman and then murdering her at a village in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
As per police sources, the body of the elderly woman was found near the panchayat store room at Korukonda in the district on November 5 morning. On being informed by locals, the police launched an investigation into the incident. The woman, aged around 63 years, had been staying at Korukonda and earning her livelihood by working in eateries and houses.
During the probe, police examined the call record of the deceased woman and took the help of scientific team. They zeroed in on two youths, identified as Kamalu Nag (38) and Rakesh Dhali (30) and came to know that the two had committed the crime on the night of November 4 after visiting the ongoing Mandei festival in Khairput block.
One of the accused was regularly speaking to the woman over phone. He called her to a place near the local pump house and sexually assaulted her. When she raised an alarm, the duo strangulated her and threw the body near the panchayat store room.
