Cuttack: An elderly woman was allegedly killed by her neighbour, who suspected that she was practising witchcraft in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
According to reports, the ghastly incident reportedly took place late on Wednesday night at Chandanpur village under the jurisdiction of Tangi police station in the district. The incident came to light on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Meena Chatar. Her son filed a written complaint at Tangi police station accusing a neighbour of having his mother.
It was alleged that the woman’s neighbour hacked her to death as he suspected that she was practising witchcraft and causing harm to his family members.
The accused and his family members have been suffering from an unknown disease. Suspecting Meena of practising black magic on them, the man killed her with a sharp weapon and fled the scene after committing the crime, her son alleged.
Police personnel along with a forensic team reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. Further investigation is underway, while efforts are on to nab the accused.
