Cuttack: The elderly woman, who had sustained critical injuries after a ceiling fan snapped and fell on her at SCB Medical College and Hospital here, died late on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Parbati Das of Krushna Nagar in Jajpur.
The incident had taken place in the surgery ward of the hospital around 8 am on March 8 while the 75-year-old was under treatment for burn injuries. Having sustained serious injuries, she was then shifted to the ICU in the Trauma care unit.
Kin of the deceased had lodged a complaint in this regard with the police, superintendent of SCB, and Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC).
Attendant of Parbati had told the media that the fan began wobbling and made a screeching noise as it was switched on. Though everyone in the ward had brought the matter to the notice of the staff, nothing was done. They were instead asked not to tamper with the ward’s equipment.
Following the incident, the general electrical division (GED) under the Works department had installed a new fan by replacing the old suspension rod.
