Angul: An elderly woman was charred to death after her house was set afire at Banabasipur under Nalco police limits in Angul district late on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Draupadi Pradhan (60), a resident of Hindol.
As soon as the news spread, a group of villagers gathered at the spot and passed on the information to police.
Draupadi, a labourer by profession, used to stay alone in the house since her husband’s death. Locals suspect that the widow woman’s nephew locked her house from outside and set it on fire over a longstanding property dispute, police sources said.
The relatives of the deceased have already been informed. The body will be sent for post-mortem after they reach the spot, the sources added.
