Bhubaneswar: The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) is planning to add electric buses to its popular Mo Bus service by the end of January.
A total of 25 electric buses would be introduced in the first phase and 25 more in March.
The buses will run in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri. CRUT had earlier carried trials of electric buses on different routes in Bhubaneswar.
The electric buses will have modern features like AC, CCTV camera, USB charging points in every seat.
The main advantage of electric buses will be pollution-free, noise-free transportation that require no diesel or petrol.
Like other electric vehicles, these too are gearless and have three switches-reverse, neutral and drive.
CRUT is also setting up two modern bus depots at Patia and Patrapada soon at an approximate cost of Rs 17 crore.
The pandemic has hit Mo Bus service with numbers falling from a peak of 1 lakh to 26,000 a day now. A total of 109 buses are plying on 17 routes.
