Jajpur: An electrician died after suffering an electric shock while carrying out repair work on a power pole at Dhanpur village of Panikoili in Jajpur district on Thursday afternoon.
He was identified as Parsuram Panda.
Following the mishap, locals staged a blockade on NH-5 demanding adequate compensation to the family of the deceased. The agitators alleged that the incident took place because of the failure of senior officials to provide safety equipment to field-level workers.
“We are not able to pinpoint the reason behind the incident as all precautionary measures were taken and power supply disconnected when the repair work was underway,” an employee of the local electricity office said.
