Bhawanipatna: Panic gripped the passengers of a state-run bus after an elephant blocked the road for nearly two hours in Karlapat forest area in Kalahandi district on Tuesday.
According to reports, the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) bus with 40 passengers was going to Rampur from Bhawanipatna in the morning when the driver suddenly stopped the vehicle after spotting the elephant on the road.
The elephant remained on the road for around two hours and then went inside the forest.
“Usually elephants move along in the Karlapat forest area at night. But villagers living in the forest periphery are panicked to find this elephant moving during the day,” said a resident of Karlapat.
Notably, the Forest Department has declared Karlapat forest as one of the elephant corridors in Odisha.
