Cuttack: Carcass of a female elephant calf was recovered at Paikerapur under Khuntuni range in Athagarh of Cuttack district on Wednesday.
The incident came to the light after some locals spotted the carcass at the backyard of a villager’s house and informed forest officials.
Forest officials and police have seized the body for autopsy. They suspect that the calf died due to electrocution.
In a separate incident, a youth suffered grievous injuries after being attacked by a crocodile in Patasala river at Rajnagar in Kendrapara district. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The victim had gone out of his house to answer nature’s call when the incident took place.
