Berhampur: A male elephant calf was found dead on a paddy field in Pannada village under Chikiti block of Ganjam district on Wednesday.
On being informed by the villagers, the Forest officials reached the spot and buried the carcass of the 4-year-old elephant calf after the veterinary doctors conducted the post-mortem.
According to sources, there were no injury marks on the body of the calf. The Forest officials were conducting investigation to ascertain the cause of its death.
A herd of 13 elephants was creating panic in villages under Digapahandi Forest Range for the last few days and had remained in the jungle near Pannada village for the last one week.
