Kalahandi: An elephant calf, that fell into a well at Babenal in Narla Range under Kalahandi North Division, was rescued by forest officials on Sunday.
The calf, aged about 4 years, fell into an abandoned well after getting separated from its herd.
Some locals spotted the elephant calf and informed forest officials , who rushed to the spot and engaged in rescue operation. A JCB was brought to rescue the calf from the well.
They were successful in rescuing the calf after a two-hour operation. The calf pushed itself out the pond and rushed into the wild nearby.
