Baripada: An elephant was found dead at Baliadhipa in Similipal National Park of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Sunday.
According to sources, the carcass of the female elephant was spotted by some locals who informed the Forest officials. The pachyderm was stated to be about five years old.
After getting information, senior Forest department officials including DFO Uma Mahesh and Bangiriposi ranger Maheshwar Singh, along with veterinary experts, and other personnel visited the site.
While the exact cause of the animal’s death is yet to be ascertained, officials said a clear picture will emerge after the post-mortem examination.
Investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the death of the pachyderm and forest officials are waiting for the postmortem report.
