Bhubaneswar: In a step aimed at preventing elephant deaths on railway tracks in Odisha, an animal overpass will be built over the tracks passing through Kapilash Wildlife Sanctuary in Dhenkanal district. It’s a first-of-its-kind project in the state.
“Survey and soil testing work have been done and the design is likely to be finalised in the next three to four months. It will take two years to complete the overpass,” Dhenkanal DFO Prakash Chand Gogineni told a news portal.
While the design and site will be finalised jointly by the Forest department and the railways, the latter will execute the construction.
