Khurda: Panic gripped Khurda town on Wednesday after an elephant herd barged into the premises of the district headquarters hospital in the morning.
Some locals spotted about 18 elephants in the cashew forest inside the hospital premises in the morning and informed the Forest Department. A 20-member team of Forest staffers rushed to the hospital.
As informed by the locals, the elephants barged into the hospital premises after demolishing the boundary wall last night.
Taking note of the extra high tension (EHT) drawn at a low level over the cashew forests, a technical team of officials of the Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) has rushed to the hospital to avert any untoward incident.
While the Forest staffers have begun their work to drive out the herd from the hospital premises, the power supply through the EHT has been disconnected for the safety of the elephants, the sources added.
It may be mentioned that two elephants had earlier barged into the hospital premises.
