Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped Chitrakuta hill area, on the outskirts of Nirakarpur in Odisha’s Khurda district, after a woman was seriously injured after being attacked by a herd of elephant on Friday morning.
According to sources, a herd of elephant barged into Brundabanapur village under Nirakarpur police limits and attacked a woman. The seriously injured woman was rushed to the district headquarters hospital and her condition was stated to be critical.
Earlier, the elephant herd had strayed into the Sana Rautapada village under Tangi police limits and consumed more than 40 sacks of paddy stacked in the backyard of the house of the villagers.
Till reports last came in, the Forest staff had reached the area and efforts are on to drive the herd out of the village.
