Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped the CDA area of Cuttack, as an elephant strayed into human habitation on Monday morning.
Locals spotted the elephant in Sector-VIII and IX of CDA, informed the police.
The police and forest department officials reached the spot to drive away the pachyderm. Forest department officials have been creating awareness among the people not to scare the elephant.
Vehicular movement has been restricted in the area since today morning. Forest department officials said that they will drive out the elephant after the evening.
“We have spotted the elephant in front of Prachi Hospital in CDA. Our staff is present there. We will drive out the elephant. We are also informing the people not to enter the jungle near CDA and disturb the elephant. We have asked people to use alternate routes,” said Cuttack Range ACF, Bikram Deb Pattnaik.
