Rourkela: A man was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Jharbeda village under Bistar forest range in Rourkela of Sundargarh district late on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Luku Munda.
According to available information, the animal entered the human habitation in search of food and attacked Munda while he was asleep in his house. The animal then wandered in the village and also destroyed several houses.
On being informed about the incident, local forest personnel reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
Peeved over the incident, the villagers demanded appropriate measures to check elephant menace in the locality.
