Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Police on Friday seized three pieces of elephant tusks and arrested three persons in this connection in Jajpur district.
Acting on reliable information that a deal was going on regarding sale of the rusks, the STF team conducted a raid at Kabatbandha Chhak near Brahmani bridge. They nabbed the three persons, identified as Pitabas Barik of Bhagabanpur, Keonjhar, Ananda Mahakud of Barbil, Keonjhar and Ambuja Pradhan of Kabatbandha, Jajpur, who were engaged in the illegal deal
Besides the the tusks, the team also seized incriminating materials from their possession. As the three persons could not produce valid document in support of possession of the elephant tusks, the raiding team arrested them.
The STF has registered a case and forwarded the arrested persons to the court. The seized tusks will be sent to the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun for chemical examination, a press release stated.
