Cuttack: The elephant, which was found with multiple gun shot wounds in Odisha’s Cuttack district and was undergoing treatment, succumbed on Friday.
The tusker was spotted by the locals moving in pain in a forest under Narainghpur West forest range of Athgarh forest division three days back. On being informed, experts from Satkosia wildlife sanctuary along with Forest officials of the division tranquilised the elephant and started treatment.
They detected 5 gun shot wounds near left ear, leg, trunk and body of the elephant. But the wild tusker succumbed during the treatment, said Athgarh DFO Sudarhsan Gopinath Yadav on Friday.
It may be mentioned another elephant, who had also sustained gun shots in Jaipur section of Narasinghpur forest range, died after treatment on Tuesday. Another tusker was found with gunshot injuries near a rivulet in Narasinghapur forest range on June 14.
