Bengaluru: As many as 44 schools in Karnataka’s capital city received bomb threats through anonymous emails on Friday.
The content of the emails were similar, though they were sent from different IDs.
The threat mails sent to the schools mentioned ‘mujahideen’ and ‘kafirs’, India Today reported quoting sources.
“You are enemies of Allah. We’ll blow up your temples and idols,” most of the emails stated.
Seven schools received the threat mails initially. Over the next few hours, dozens of other schools reported receiving threats.
Though this seemed to be a repeat of similar hoax threats received last year by many private schools, Bengaluru Police took no chances and evacuated students and staff from school premises as a precaution.
Police conducted thorough searches with the help of Bomb Disposal Squads, but are yet to confirm bombs being found in any of the schools.
“Certain schools in Bengaluru city have received emails today morning indicating ‘bomb threat’. Anti-sabotage and bomb detection squads have been pressed into service to verify and ascertain. The calls seem to be a hoax. Even then, all efforts will be made to trace the culprits,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda said in a post on X.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed police to carry out a thorough investigation.
“Security measures have been taken, and parents need not panic. I have instructed the police to inspect the schools and enhance security. A preliminary report has been received from the police department,” he said.
