Bhubaneswar: Renowned engineer and former director of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Sudhir Kumar Samarendra Narayan passed away on Sunday evening.
Narayan, popularly known as SKS, was born to lawyer and theatre personality Sudhir Chandra and activist Saila Bala in Karanjia on March 26, 1942. A brilliant academician, he graduated from the REC, Rourkela with BTech in Mechanical Engineering in 1965 and joined Rourkela Steel Plant the same year.
He served in various high positions before joining the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in 1990 where he rapidly climbed the corporate ladder to the rank of director until his retirement in 2003. Narayan received many awards for excellence in service.
After retirement he settled down in Bhubaneswar where he retained his active social life as a veteran Rotarian and a life member of INTACH. He was very active in social work and community service. He is survived by his wife Nalini Narayan and children Sonali and Samir.
