Bhubaneswar: Eminent Gandhians Padmashree Sabarmati, Padma Charan Nayak, and Prahallad Sinha were honoured for their contributions at the Aditya Birla Group’s Gandhi Peace Centre in Bhubaneswar during a special Gandhi Jayanti event titled ‘Remembering Bapu’.
Nayak, a noted freedom fighter, an MLA, social worker and convener of anti-liquor advocacy group Milita Odisha Nisha Nibarana Abhijan (MONNA) in the state, had turned 100 years in January this year.
The commemorative programme featured prominent dignitaries, including Odisha Law and Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Mayor Sulochana Das, former IAS officer Arun Kumar Rath, and noted environmental activist S N Patro.
As part of the celebrations, awards were presented to school students and differently-abled children who competed in various events focused on the theme “Mahatma Gandhi and Indian Freedom Struggle.”
The event was coordinated by Himansu Shekhar Sahoo, Vice President of the Aditya Birla Group, alongside Seema Nayak, Administrative Officer at the Gandhi Peace Centre.
